Represented Empower Her Initiative at Women Breaking Barriers Conference - insightful and enriching.
Today about 98 million adolescent girls around the world are not in school. In Nigeria, UNICEF reports that 60 percent of out of school children are girls, bringing the number of out of school girls in Nigeria to about 5.5million. A data from the national bureau of statistics states that 60% of the poor in Nigeria are women. Inequality and its root cause can be traced to unequal access to education and when it happen with girls, it is worst because it has a double effect.
Clearly, one of the major barricades to breakthrough among women is education. The importance of girl child education is generational, since every educated girl is likely to make education a priority for her child. When you educate a girl u empower a nation.
Girls need to be educated and women need to be equipped with skills in order to break the cycle of poverty amongst women. Barriers are meant to be broken not to be observed. We cannot sit and lament over the barriers that limit us as women.
Empower Her Initiative was conceived out of a deep rooted desire to liberate women from slavery. Slavery that comes with lack of education & skill, culminating in ignorance, poverty and financial difficulties.
We sincerely appreciate all our friends, partners and patrons both in London and Scotland for their support. We have immensely benefited from the networking opportunities and look forward to constructive collaborations aimed at liberating girls and women.
Friends, let's do this! - Help a girl to achieve her dreams of a sound education.
